EARLY LIFE
Very little is known about Therese Labbe’s personal life. The 47-year-old was a university graduate who lived alone. She was also a mother to two children. Outside of those facts, few details have been shared with the public.
MURDER
On October 5, 1989, Therese spent the day hitchhiking the 370-km journey from Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, to Timmins. This wasn’t an uncommon occurrence, given the distance and lack of transportation between urban areas in Northern Ontario, especially in the 1980s.
The last reported sightings of the 47-year-old came at around 3:00 AM the following morning. Witnesses recalled seeing her asleep in the Timmins transit office, located at the corner of Algonquin Boulevard and Cedar Street. Later that day, her body was found along Highway 101, floating in the Mountjoy River. She’d been beaten and strangled to death.
INVESTIGATION
Many questions arose after Therese’s body was discovered. Who was responsible for her death, and how did she end up 38 km south of Timmins? Given those looking into the case have remained tight-lipped, it’s unknown if this information is known. No suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in relation to the 47-year-old’s murder.
