DISCOVERY:
On June 2, 2023, the decomposed body of an unidentified female was discovered on private property in the 4300 block of Abbotts Bridge Road in Duluth, Gwinnett County, Georgia. The mostly skeletal remains were found by the son of the property owner, who was cleaning the commercial site.
It’s not clear exactly where on the property Jane Doe’s remains were found.
AUTOPSY:
The decedent’s remains were brought to the Gwinnett County Medical Examiner’s Office, where it was determined she’d died between 2022-23, with the most likely time frame being within four months of her being discovered.
Given the level of decomposition, a cause of death couldn’t be determined.
DETAILS:
The decedent is described as an African-American woman between the ages of 25-35. She stood between 5’1″ and 5’5″, and was found wearing a camisole, size small, with a cross back. Given the state of decomposition, her weight and eye colour couldn’t be determined. However, a detailed description of her hair was made available, with reports stating it was either black or brown in colour, featured long extensions and was braided, with ring-style accessories in it.
Jane Doe had a number of notable features, the most prominent of which were her several piercings. Her tongue and navel were pierced, along with either her nose or lip, and she had two dermal piercings on her back, possibly the lower section. As well, she had a tattoo on her upper back, near her neck or shoulder. While the state of the remains made it difficult to fully discern the image, it’s described as being banner-style, with red and blue as the prominent colours.
INVESTIGATION:
On June 20, 2023, investigators conducted a search at the home of 52-year-old Abdurrahim Jalal, at 748 Scott Boulevard in Decatur, DeKalb County, Georgia. This was the second search of the property, with the first occurring on April 29, when Jalal was taken into custody for allegedly causing an explosion at a Bank of America ATM at the North DeKalb Mall the previous month.
While Jalal faces both federal and local charges in connecting to the ATM bombing, investigators havn’t revealed his relation to Jane Doe’s case. According to local records, he’s not the owner of the Abbotts Bridge Road property, and it’s unclear if he’s a tenant.
