EARLY LIFE:
Zachery Kellock was born to Joanne Butski. Growing up in Truro, Nova Scotia, a town of about 13,000 residents, he was about to begin the social work program at a nearby community college around the time of his disappearance.
DISAPPEARANCE:
At 4:00 PM on January 14, 2024, Zachery left the home he shared with his girlfriend on James Street and got into a vehicle with two other individuals. While their identities haven’t been confirmed, their names were allegedly Craig Pike and Gordie Smith.
For two days, Zachery’s loved ones didn’t hear from him. According to Joanne, she was informed of her son’s absence by one of the 23-year-old’s friends. After confirming his last-known contact with his girlfriend, she contacted the two men he was allegedly last seen with. They claimed to have dropped Zachery off at the end of James Street.
Unsatisfied with these answers and concerned her son hadn’t been in contact with anyone, Joanne reported him missing to the Truro Police Service.
INVESTIGATION:
Early into the investigation, it was learnt Zachery was last seen at an address on the Millbrook First Nation, approximately five minutes from his residence. This resulted in the Colchester County District RCMP taking over the investigation, as the case now fell under its jurisdiction.
In April 2025, Zachery’s case was added to Nova Scotia’s Major Unsolved Crimes Program, with the Northeast Nova District RCMP’s Major Crime Unit becoming the main agency in charge of the investigation. The Truro Police Service has continued to provide assistance, along with the RCMP’s Forensic Identification Services.
