*UPDATE: The Sarnia Police Service has announced that human remains found on December 12, 2021 have been positively identified as John Adams.*
LEAD UP TO DISAPPEARANCE:
On October 11, 2021, 61-year-old John Adams was celebrating Thanksgiving with his daughter, Paige Hunt, and her family. The former London, Ontario resident had relocated to Sarnia three months prior to be closer to his daughter, her fiancé and her newborn son.
Between 1:00pm and 2:00pm, John asked if he could borrow Paige’s orange and black Viking Trail mountain bike, as he wished to go for a ride through the city. He did this often, and promised to return in time for dinner.
The last time anyone saw John, he was pedalling away from the three-storey apartment building at 821 Devine Street.
DISAPPEARANCE:
John still hadn’t returned by the time dinner rolled around. While annoyed, Paige didn’t think too much of her father’s absence.
After a few days had passed without contact, Paige began to grow worried – it was out of character for him to be gone so long without informing anyone. As such, she contacted the Sarnia Police Service to report him missing.
SEARCH:
The investigation into John’s disappearance is currently being handled by the Criminal Investigation Branch of the Sarnia Police Service. As of December 10, 2021, it has turned into a major investigation, with detectives unable to rule out foul play. This is because he has no history of mental health issues or suicidal behaviour, nor a history of disappearing for extended periods of time.
Sarnia police have been unable to locate little, if any, evidence that would lead them to John’s whereabouts. They spoken to numerous people, including those in London, but no one has heard from him.
Approximately three notices have been shared with local media, requesting the public’s assistance.
No security camera footage has been located to indicate which route John took on his trek around the city. As well, the mountain bike he was riding has not been located, despite efforts by Paige, family and friends, who have searched Sarnia’s waterfront and trails.
There has been no activity on John’s bank accounts since he went missing.

John Adams was last seen departing 821 Devine Street in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada on October 11, 2021. He was 61 years old, and while what he was last seen wearing is currently unknown, he was riding an orange and black Viking Trail mountain bike. At the time of his disappearance, he stood at 5’9″, with a slender-to-medium build, and was balding with black hair. He is known to frequently wear baseball caps.
Currently, the case is classified as a missing person investigation. If alive, John would still be 61 years old.
