August 17, 2021:
The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office has uncovered the identity of the unidentified female found along Highway 93 in White Hills, Arizona on September 28, 2016.
Known as “White Hills Jane Doe“, the deceased has been identified as 18-year-old Kimberly Rena Jones of San Bernardino, California. The identification was made by the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit through the use of DNA genealogy. In October 2020, the remains were exhumed and a DNA sample taken, after which a full genome was developed. From there, investigators were able to identify potential relatives via her genealogy.
Jane Doe was positively identified as Kimberly in early July 2021. She’d been reported missing in 2017, but investigators with the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office were not made aware of the missing persons report out of California.
The investigation into Kimberly’s death is ongoing. Those with information regarding the case are asked to contact the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office’s Special Investigations Unit at 928-753-0753 ex. 4408 or 1-800-522-4312.
